Icon Group CEO, Mark Middleton and Icon Cancer Centre CEO, Paul Fenton have signed up for PCFA’s Walk for Him for Men’s Health Week in an effort to raise awareness and funds for men impacted by prostate cancer.
We caught up with the two leading cancer care luminaries to find out more about why they’re getting involved and what motivates them.
Mark Middleton
Icon Group, CEO
Mark is a successful radiation therapist and business leader in the community. He founded Radiation Oncology Queensland (ROQ) in 2007 which joined with Icon in 2014, and has been an integral part of the organisation ever since.
He knows all too well the impact cancer has on patients and their families and is determined to lead Icon Group in making a meaningful contribution to the global cancer burden.
“I love helping people and seeing our Icon team develop personally and professionally. Watching others achieve excellence motivates me to keep going.”
Mark said getting involved in causes like Walk for Him through his role was important to him, and encouraged his staff and the community to get involved.
“The Icon team is always proud to walk the talk on cancer care. It’s important that we support men and their families who are navigating through prostate cancer.”
Next week, he’ll be getting his 49,000 steps in during Men’s Health Week by walking his dogs and keeping up with his two teenage children.
Paul Fenton
Icon Cancer Centre Australia and New Zealand, CEO
As a qualified radiation therapist, Paul has more than 25 years’ experience working across the public, private and not-for-profit healthcare sectors, and is committed to leading Icon Group’s Australian cancer division to provide the best care possible, as close to home as possible.
Paul first joined Icon four and a half years ago, and took over as CEO of Icon Cancer Centre Australia and New Zealand 18 months ago.
“I work with an amazing team who are all driven by the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of the patients and families entrusted in our care,” Paul said.
“I have worked in health care my entire career, starting off as a radiation therapist, and l love seeing people do well and to see the boundaries pushed for the right reasons.”
Paul said he joined Walk for Him this Men’s Health Week to help show his support to PCFA.
“PCFA is an amazing organisation with a clear mission to advocate for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, support them and their families through education, prostate support nurses, and raising awareness and funding to improve outcomes for men irrespective of where they live.
“We need to support important causes like this so that men and their families have the right support when they’re diagnosed with prostate cancer.”
Paul said he is ready to lace up for Men’s Health Week, with physical activity already part of his regular routine.
“I train three to four times a week with a morning bootcamp group. This year I have also got back in the pool, joining a swimming masters squad for the first time in 20 years!”
Thank you Mark and Paul for your ongoing support, commitment and involvement in PCFA initiatives. We can’t do it without you!
