A group of Aussie 4X4 enthusiasts are gearing up for a major fundraising event next week – the Prostate Cancer Rally through the Victorian High Country.
Twenty vehicles and crew will depart Merimbula on Saturday 18 February 2022 for the annual Prostate Cancer Rally in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).
Event Director Peter Fehon will lead participants through famous 4WD tracks around Merimbula, Jindabyne, Bright, Myrtleford, and Mansfield before finishing at Wodonga on Friday 24 February 2022.
Event Convenor Ross Alexander was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013 and said he instigated the Rally soon after to help raise vital awareness about the disease and funds for research. He believes that research and awareness is the reason he has survived today.
Since then, with Covid interruptions, three rallies have been run and to date has raised $571,000 for PCFA’s research, awareness and support services.
“Over 24,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year in Australia, and more than 3,500 men die from the disease annually which is far too many,” Mr Alexander said.
“Early detection is key to saving more lives – and we’re committed to educating men about the disease who we meet throughout the week, and spreading awareness right across the State.
“This is the first year the event has been through the Victorian High Country, having previously been through the very far Australian outback towns.
“We’re greatly looking forward to driving through the magnificent Victorian High Country and will be tackling many of the famous tracks that are on every 4WDer’s bucket list – Dargo High Plains, Wonnangatta Track, Blue Rag, and Talbotville, to name a few.”

“The Victorian High Country is one of Australia’s most iconic tourist destinations, with many men in the region facing an increased risk of prostate cancer as they age.
