Jeff Dunn and current UICC President, Princess HRH Dina Mired

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia CEO, Professor Jeff Dunn AO, has been nominated for election to the role of President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

Nominations to the UICC Board were invited from around the world, with 44 submissions and 22 candidates chosen for the14 roles on the Board of Directors.

Six nominations were submitted for President-elect, with Jeff one of two candidates selected for election.

The vote will take place this October at the UICC General Assembly.

PCFA Chairman, Associate Professor Steve Callister, congratulated Jeff on his candidacy.

“Jeff’s nomination recognises his 30 year track record of service to the UICC, to international cancer control, and to Australian men and families affected by prostate cancer.

“To be nominated by his peers as a candidate for global leadership is truly a testimony of Jeff’s impact through the years.

“It also speaks to the increasing relevance and role of PCFA in reducing the worldwide burden of prostate cancer.”

With 1188 organisation members across 172 countries, UICC is a network of research institutes, healthcare agencies, ministries of health, and other partners committed to shaping cancer control on a global scale.

UICC President HRH Princess Dina Mired released a statement to international news networks.

“It is truly great to see that so many outstanding experts want to make a difference for cancer control on UICC's Board.

“This certainly speaks for the relevance and reputation of our organisation and is a promising sign for UICC's future.”

In addition to his role as CEO of PCFA, Jeff is a current Board Member and Treasurer of UICC, research leader at the University of Southern Queensland, and a Board Director of one of Queensland’s West Moreton Hospital and Health Service.

University of Southern Queensland Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie commended Jeff on his nomination.

“Jeff has played an important role at the University as Chair and Research Program Director of our Centre for Health Research’s Social and Behavioural Science team,” Professor Mackenzie said.

“His research and work to support numerous joint initiatives with health partners is key to our efforts to improve cancer survivorship and quality of life for regional Australians.”

The elections will take place at the UICC General Assembly on 6 October 2020.
