It’s the most common cancer among local men, its causes are unknown, and often it strikes with no warning.

The disease is prostate cancer, and this Men’s Health Week cancer care luminaries are stepping up to raise survival in the Walk for Him.

The event, run by Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, invites people to do 49,000 steps during the week – beginning Monday June 13 – in solidarity with men who are affected.

Icon Group CEO, Mark Middleton, and Icon Cancer Centre CEO, Paul Fenton, have joined the campaign.

“The Icon team is always proud to walk the talk on cancer care,” Mr Middleton said.

“With 49 men diagnosed every day, prostate cancer is one of the most significant issues for men’s health in Australia today.

“Icon is proud to work in partnership with PCFA to support patients and we’re proud to walk in partnership with PCFA in the Walk for Him.

The two cancer care leaders urged others to get involved, with Mr Fenton captaining the Icon team.

“Every year Icon delivers life-saving clinical care to thousands of men with prostate cancer, taking the time to make sure they don’t walk along during their diagnosis and treatment.

“The Walk for Him is an opportunity for us to strengthen our solidarity for the cause, taking action to improve men’s health and the health of our whole community.

“Icon is proud to back Walk for Him and to sponsor the campaign as a major prize partner.”

PCFA CEO Anne Savage commended Icon for its support.

“Awareness saves lives – with the support of iconic cancer care brands like Icon we know we can make great strides towards survival,” Ms Savage said.

“We’re incredibly proud to have two of the world’s cancer chiefs walking with us for men impacted by prostate cancer.

“All funds raised will go directly to research, awareness, and support.

“Over the past 10 years we’ve come a long way, funding $40m in research, placing 100 Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses, and providing one million info kits to the Australian community.

“But we have more work to do to save lives.”
