Australian behavioural scientist and President of the Union for International Cancer Control, Professor Jeff Dunn AO, has been ranked among the world’s Top 2% of Scientists, recognizing his impact and influence in the field of cancer control.
Professor Dunn is one of Australia’s longest serving cancer control researchers and a recognised World Cancer Leader.
He currently serves as the Chief of Mission and Head of Research for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and is also the University of Southern Queensland’s Professor of Social and Behavioural Science and Chair of Cancer Survivorship.
Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Chairman, Adjunct Associate Professor Steve Callister, said the ranking confirmed Professor Dunn’s national and international leadership in psycho-oncology and the behavioural aspects of cancer care.
“Jeff has dedicated his 30-year career to improving Australian and worldwide cancer control, accelerating progress towards the elimination of cancer and broadening global knowledge on the psychological and behavioural impacts of cancer.
“Together with his wife Professor Suzanne Chambers AO, he has pioneered the Survivorship Essentials Framework for Quality Cancer Care, providing evidence-based strategies to better manage the life-long effects of cancer on individuals and the community, so that patients and their loved ones can attain optimal quality of life.”
Professor Dunn said he was honoured to be ranked alongside other global medical and scientific leaders.
“Being called to contribute my time and expertise as a researcher is a great honour and a wonderful opportunity to fortify our global work at the local level to save lives.
“As Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s Chief of Mission and Head of Research, I will continue to devote my efforts to improving outcomes for Australian men and families, supporting those diagnosed.
“My work will continue to take a special focus on engaging world leaders, policy makers, and professionals in embracing the Survivorship Essentials in universal systems of practice, to ensure that those who are living with the disease are living well.
“Timely, targeted action is key, building on historical efforts to harness our collective capacity and inspire action and investment in research and patient-centred care.
“Above all, I will continue to forge global friendships that help to influence and accelerate change, strengthening the frameworks of local and worldwide survivorship.”
The list, compiled by Stanford University, includes the world’s most frequently cited scientists across different disciplines and is widely considered the most prestigious ranking in the world.
